(disclaimer: I’ve been single/living alone since last fall.) But alas, seems like everyone is having their fair share of rough days. My friends with kids have been stressed to the max, whereas my single friends have been far more lonely. Those with introversion patterns have been elated to work without distractions, whereas others have been devastated - professionally, financially, romantically - leaving them with substantial idle time to stew on these surprise transgressions. When the quarantine was announced, I had just released my film and was preparing for screenings and to return to the speaker circuit. So while there were some career casualties, it could have been far worse. In the solitary time, I’ve generally able to better focus on my writing, health, and sleep. But there is still that gnawing — a lack of hugs, in-person laughter and the anticipation of something to look forward to — and sadness for others who are in truly dire circumstances. This weekend finally got to me and I suddenly couldn’t stop tears. If you’re feeling this way now, just know that even those who seem like they have it all together are having really bad days too. One thing I learned through the worst of cancer treatment is that you have to take it one day at a time....just try to make it through the day. Things WILL return to a more normalish state soon.
