I'm so impressed with curator Fumio Nanjo ’s quick decisions to make this happen during the Covid-19 crisis - so everyone (including those of you living outside of Tokyo) please come see our installation “Boundaries” which is now on display in virtual space! https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=k49Cr68caXk Although we never expected this outcome, we're grateful to have our exhibition re-opened and extended (and also permanently available, in a way!) Boundaries (2019) is a new work by Another Farm that uses genetically-modified glowing silk to create a dress to enact a scene from traditional Noh theater. The glowing dress floats on an invisible Noh stage and the intricate patterns depicting symbols of harmonization are intensified by silk created by silkworms that have been genetically modified to spin silk that includes green- fluorescent protein (GFP). L: 4000 W: 4500 H: 2500, including stage, the dress alone can be exhibited on aIko mounting board (L: 170 W: 30 H: 180). Edition of 5. ©2019, Another Farm The particular scene and dress is from Okina, a sacred ritual performance that precedes theatrical Noh and is closely related to Japanese mythology. The dance of Okina follows the purification of the stage by a performer who acts as a vessel for a deity and indicates the mutual harmony of heaven, earth, and man. Working closely with the Umewaka School and traditional silk weavers in Kyoto, Another Farm has reinterpreted the ritual to explore the spiritual boundaries between tradition, technology and humanity, and the role of art as vessel in bringing together these elements. The dress is made with the most skilled craftsmen and at the highest quality in par with the most important Noh performance dresses in Japan. Another Farm is a collective that began in 2018 and is a project between Hiromi Ozaki (Sputniko!) and Masaya Kushino. Working with scientists and engineers, Another Farm explores the relationship between humanity and nature, and produce works that bring together new technology and traditional techniques. #moriartmuseum #anotherfarm #sputniko #masayakushino」5月4日 13時08分 - 5putniko
