Repost from @natgeoyourshot
Eugene Polinsky's career in the Army reads like a spy novel, which it could be, considering that he worked in the OSS—the precursor to the CIA.
The Grammy Award-winning Broadway producer, playwright, and actor had an unique military career that he was told not to talk about after his 35th mission. But with the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe and his 100th birthday coming up, the time to fully tell his story is now.
Polinsky was part of a secret group called the Carpetbaggers. He and his crew dropped supplies at night from the B-24 Liberator to the underground in Belgium. His job as a navigator was to work in concert with the pilot, co-pilot, and the rest of the crew. Forty-two of the Carpetbaggers' planes never returned home. "If you let it bother us, it would destroy us," he says. "You had to just go on."
The stories that I have profiled about World War II moved me and left me speechless. The strength and courage that not just soldiers but also regular citizens were able to summon to continue to live is amazing. To me, the stories are a bright light in these dark and confusing days.

What does resilience look like to you? Can you show us? Upload your images to your feed and use the hashtag #StoriesofResilience. I’ll be curating submissions and featuring my favorites on the Your Shot account leading up to the 75th anniversary of V-E Day.
