An all-time favorite Mae West moment! 🤍🖤🤍
#MaeWest wrote every line she ever spoke onscreen, made her first film at age 40, and was the biggest sex symbol of her time. Not only did she demand equal pay to her leading men, she researched what the studio bosses got, and demanded to be paid slightly more than them...and she got it. Always sex-positive, she sauntered across the silver screen like a #sexualgangster and flipped the script, often objectifying and dominating men.
If your interest is piqued, there are many great books written about her, and by her. I’ve read them all, but one of my favorites is called She Always Knew How. And if you can get your hands on it, Mae West on Sex, Health and ESP is hilarious and delightful, full of Mae’s signature wit.
I believe this is a #schiaparelli dress, also worn in one of my favorite portraits of her.
