Although granola (or granula as it was originally called) was marketed for the first time in the United States in 1863, this mix of cereal, seeds and nuts did not become popular until the mid-20th century, specifically in the 1960s, when the hippie movement advocated for a healthy lifestyle and being connected to nature. As granola is full of energy and easy to eat, it was widely consumed during the famous 1969 Woodstock festival.
Granola mix should contain a combination of ingredients from four groups: cereal (usually oats), nuts (walnuts or almonds), dried fruit and seeds (raisins, dates, etc.) and honey. You can choose the quantities of these four groups. However, for a balanced granola mix there should be more cereal than other ingredients to avoid overloading it with calories.
