It connects the rear wheel to the rest of the bike, joining at the back of the frame at the swingarm pivot point. This is the point the swingarm rotates around, to control this rotation, the rear shock is connected to the swingarm via a linkage, with the rear shock able to be adjusted to fine tune how the swingarm moves! 🔧  The swingarm pivot point can be changed to alter forces acting upon the rear wheel, chain and swingarm. These forces dictate the characteristic of how the rear suspension behaves and thus the overall bike 🏍️ Strength and flex are crucial for a swingarm. Vertically, a swingarm must be stiff and strong to withstand the extreme forces under hard acceleration. They also need to be strong laterally but allow some flex too. Lateral flex allows the swingarm to find grip and absorb bumps at high lean angles, however, it needs to do this without twisting. If a swingarm twists at high lean angles, it can change the angle of the rear wheel causing problems with turning! ⚠️ To fine tune strength and flex, teams are slowly moving away from traditional aluminium swingarms to carbon ones.
