Just my thoughts after weeks of answering questions about the topic:
I am not really frustrated or sad about the Olympics being delayed. I understand everyone is in a unique situation with this and each athlete is entitled to feel how they do about the situation.
And it’s not because there’s nothing frustrating about the situation, but because I just made a decision not to be. For me, I miss wrestling but I have become familiar with what it’s like to have to wait to return to the sport.
I know what it’s like to not be able to do what you love because “health comes first”. All the injuries I had these last few years taught me my top priority:
health. always. comes. first.
That was my motto from 2018-now. So it’s still about putting health first, it’s not about just my own anymore.
But what a beautiful thing we can rejoice in that we get an opportunity to return to our craft again. The Olympics are delayed—not cancelled—and that’s cause for a celebration for me. All of us are affected by Covid-19, but not everyone will get the chance to postpone their dreams, or businesses. Not everyone has a set date in the future that they can look forward to. And with hope being an anchor for the soul, I am grateful that I have a new date to be hopeful for. For many of us, we can keep our sights set on July 2021. It’s not ideal but at least this one dream isn’t over.
I will continue to choose to rejoice because the time is passing anyways and my attitude is one of the few things I can control right now.
Also, don’t forget, we are all still in training. Now we’re just training our patience, perspective, and poise. What can we get out of this time now? #sports #olympics #tokyo2021 #tokyo2020 #athletes #perspective #delayed #dreamsgoon #covid-19 #thoughts #encouragement #hopeful #wrestling #olympics
