A very special man who had a huge and lasting impact on the arts in this country and on anyone who was fortunate enough to know and work with him. If, like me you were one of them and i know a lot of you that are, i highly recommend you read his book if you haven't already. I swear you'll hear his voice and that infectious unforgettable laugh of his as you go. I'll be reading it again. George, you wrote to me that Pericles was a turning point in your life....can you imagine what it meant for me? A Greek kid from the suburbs who knew nothing of Shakespeare or anything else. You showed a kind of all knowing faith in me no one ever had . A faith i carry with me to this day . Years later we talked about doing it again. Only bigger. With an orchestra no less! I wish we did.
