Photo by Matthieu Paley @paleyphoto | I recently walked the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi, India. Here, a stray dog makes its way back to the bank. This picture was accompanied by the stench of sewage. The 22-km (14 miles) stretch of this holy river that flows through Delhi is only 2 percent of its total length but accounts for 80 percent of the river’s pollution... Approximately 20 drains pour untreated sewage and other industrial waste into the river, and because of the high level of pollutants in the water, authorities have instructed people not to bathe their animals in the river.
