As the power of our new, invisible viral enemy became evident, I was off the grid, far from human activity, listening to the cacophony of roughly 200,000 penguins on South Georgia Island, near Antarctica, for @natgeoexpeditions. When I hurriedly returned home, I discovered a wildly different world than the one I’d left just two weeks prior. On my last flight home, amazingly I was the only passenger.
