My first teacher, showed me how to shake w/the streets, like a cool cat.Never to back down from a fight,stand up for myself in case he wasn’t there.Taught me rhythm&dance thats where we always met with a smile our dance floor.Taught me how to drink like a beast, Taught me exceptional tolerance,with pain& fear.Helped me overcome sickness with grit and stayed persistent with all my dreams.A lot was expected from me not only with school but to excel in anything he threw my direction. Curfew 9PM till I was 25,I would sneak out anyway he taught me to be slick don’t forget.He never smiled at any guy I dated.No ones good enough.Our relationship was strange,he was tough on me.He’s a respected man with a high reputation to uphold, specially in my culture; which comes with many rules; rules that I refused to abide by I find them sexist & crippling for women,he confused me because he taught me to have a strong personality that’s when I realized my father had flaws, noone is perfect.I should’ve been married off w/children at 18 I had a different dream one that differed from the rules.The day I moved out I knew it broke his heart,I also know I shamed him.I began to resent my own culture;name calling without merit cuz I didn’t play by the rules.It took years to mend our relationship and it was the heaviest burden I’ve carried in my heart,you were my first love & I’ve always struggled with the thought that I disrespected the only man that truly loved me.Out of every rock that has helped lead me to my goals, yours was at the beginning.You have been the constant remaining place of refuge for my heart & have received the least amount of recognition for getting me to the peak of this mountain.I am thankful you allowed me to make my own mistakes.You evolved w/me ,you didn’t bend but broke all the rules that shackled me;you said you have never been proud of yourself more than you have been proud of the person I’ve become.Thank you for allowing me to find myself and live freely you’ve turned your little princess into a king like yourself.Happy BDAY to the king of all kings that endured so much for his daughters freedom& Independence.You allowed me to be myself.
