Consumer anxiety around health tends to drive increased demand. Well-intentioned but misleading ‘immune-boosting’ content is circulating unhinged across media, newsletters, and Instagram. And on the more sinister side, the FDA and FTC have already issued warning letters to seven companies marketing items like teas, essential oils, and colloidal silver as “anti-coronavirus” treatments.⁠ ⁠ We’ll say it here and we’ll say it loudly—there is currently no scientific evidence¹ that supplements will mitigate, prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19. And at a time like now, when misinformation is especially rampant and consumer vulnerability is high, the need for accountability is more urgent than ever.⁠ ⁠ So, we’ve turned off paid advertising for our Daily Synbiotic and will continue to monitor—to avoid any human misinterpreting, misconstruing, or misunderstanding what they may or may not need for their health at this time. Instead, we’re putting money, resources, and energy towards the global effort: our supply chain team is tapping our international networks and partners to help source masks for hospitals and clinics, our operations team is working to mitigate any disruptions to our customers, and our marketing team, scientists, creatives, and writers are orienting around one of the most meaningful missions of our work—the ongoing translation, communication, education, and empowerment of science, and how it may best serve our community.⁠ ⁠ We have some ideas we’ll be rolling out in the coming weeks, but we’d love to hear from you: what can we help you understand?
