I love going out on my balcony and seeing all the other people taking advantage of their rooftops and fire escapes. I love all the restaurant options and walking around the neighborhood and being in a one block radius from my favorite brunch place, Mazzy and Harlow’s favorite toy store, the pharmacy, our corner grocery store, etc. I love that I can look out my window at 3am and still see people walking on the sidewalk and cars driving down the street. I love ALL THE SIGNS OF LIFE. New Yorkers are a social people who take comfort in living amongst so many others. I guess that’s ultimately why it’s spread so fast there. I know NYC seems large to outsiders, but for people living here, it’s a neighborhood just like any other city. It’s where my friends are and my neighbors and all the familiar faces like our doorman, the guy who owns the pizza shop and the woman who has sat out on her front stoop for as long as I can remember. She always screams out “They are getting so big!” whenever I pass with the kids. I even recognize dogs we pass on the street. NYC is my home. So, leaving, and knowing I would not be going back for awhile, was not the easiest thing. I wrote a post about our first few days staying in the city and our decision to go to the house.
