Erika James is making history as the first woman and first person of color to lead the prestigious Wharton School of Business in the institution’s nearly 140-year history. “Erika is an award-winning scholar and teacher and a strong, proven leader," University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann said this week. James comes to Wharton from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, where she was the first black woman to serve as dean and is credited with creating one of the most gender-diverse faculties in higher education, the school said.
