Work that changes the lives and future of girls and women everywhere. This month we feature the stellar women of this last year while we also examine how we can take the love we receive this Valentine’s Day and extend it to a girl or woman who has not been allowed to chose the person she loves. The organization @VowForGirls seeks to end child marriage in a very unique way. It seeks to connect couples getting married with girls fleeing the oppressive practice of child marriage. So while they are saying "I do", they help girls across the world say "I don’t". I do think this is a deeply fitting organization to feature on this celebrated day of love. We must be reminded that girls are being forced into unions that they do not wish to be a part of. They are being denied the journey of self-love and self-discovery. The statistics on this issue will astound you. The sheer number of girls who are married before the age of 18; how that number relates to education and physical and sexual abuse. We must bring an end to this practice and allow girls to live self-determined lives. On the fourth birthday of LOG, I ask that you take the time to make a connection with one of the organizations we have featured over the last year and extend your awareness to the girls out there who need our love so they can live lives that give them the space to love themselves.
