Life, man. What a trip. Some birthdays you feel changed, some you wake up and you’re just ready to eat some cake. This birthday I feel changed. I no longer feel tethered to people and patterns that don’t serve me. I’m more patient with myself and those I love, and less patient with those intent on inflicting unnecessary hurt for personal gain. I no longer have time for the bullshit, in any context, whether that be humans who are full of it, or Instagram posts that preach it. I’m more interested in the simple things that bring me joy and less interested in what the world tells me should matter. I am more forgiving, mostly of myself, for the mistakes I’ve made... because I’m so much more aware that there’s really no such thing as long as I keep going. This life is hard. And the older I get the more I realize how connected we all are in our shared trials and our shared pain. We are all doing the best we can. And nobody has the key. But when I continue to show up for myself, and when I continue to show up for those I love, I can’t lose. If there’s one thing I know now that I didn’t know before, it’s that life really is simple. We are the ones who make everything so complicated. And it can often feel like a cruel joke. My birthday wish is that I can remember more often to keep it simple, to not give in to the thoughts of the world, but to stand firm in that inalienable truth. And I wish the same for all of you. Life is hard enough. Be there for yourself. Be there for the ones you love. Do the things that lift your heart, even if you get made fun of or judged. This life is ours. And we can make it anything we want. Create one you can be proud of. Thank you to my soul sister @carlybracco for sharing this day with me.
