This was significant for me because I was born in Hawaii & raised with Hawaiian/American traditions, but my mother is full Korean. She was born & raised in Hawaii & at that time they had just transitioned from a territory to statehood. Many immigrant families were trying to assimilate to American culture & like my mother, weren’t always taught the language & culture of their native country. So here I was, in my mid 20s, in Korea to model (pics above are from Esquire Korea 2009). I loved every minute of those next few years where I got to visit often for work & make so many connections to that side of my heritage finally. It’s funny how some things are just written in DNA & I felt very comfortable & connected there every time. I have so much pride for my people & know that this is only the beginning of a long line of showcase in talent, arts & culture and all that represents this beautiful country! #🇰🇷」2月11日 7時18分
