I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking here - what exactly the source of the humor was. Apparently an angry Californian was walking down the sidewalk, minding his own business and the hero of the cartoon (probably a Washingtonian like myself) insulted him jokingly. Said “Californian”, now enraged, then picked him up and slammed him down INTO the sidewalk somehow keeping his legs intact. Wow. Savage. I vaguely remember that us Seattle-ites in the 70s/80s were resentful at Californians (kind of like the incessant, apocalyptic anti-Californian stories that Fox News always runs) for moving up and buying a lot of property and driving their fancy cars and whatnot.
