Photo by @daisygilardini | The Great Bear Rainforest on Canada’s west coast is home to one of the rarest bears in the world: the Kermode bear. Also called the spirit bear, it is a black bear with a recessive gene that makes its fur appear a creamy yellow.
During the annual fall salmon run, bears gather along rivers to gorge and build the fat reserves necessary to survive the winter. They spend hours virtually immobile, staring at the water until they spot a fish. Then, in the blink of an eye, they jump to catch it.
