My wife Amanda and I took some time to go to @thebroadmuseum last Friday to check out the Shirin Neshat show, the Kusama infinity room installation, and the permanent collection. We have toured the permanent collection before, but always during events with a number of social interactions and other distractions. It was great to take our time to really study works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Koons, Longo, Ruscha, and more, including an impressive group of Barbara Kruger works. Barbara Kruger is one of my biggest influences, aesthetically and conceptually, with her social and political critiques. She is also the artist who inspired Supreme’s logo. Kruger created “Your Body is a Battleground” in 1989 for the Women’s March on Washington to support reproductive rights in the face of attacks on those rights. Thirty years later, we are faced with similar attacks on reproductive rights, and Kruger's art is as relevant and powerful as ever. Thanks for the inspiration, Barbara! -Shepard
