Basically if this had happened in any other country than Japan it would have been unacceptable. Shefs started talking about how "small" my face is. There was only one other woman in the place who jokingly exclaimed "what about me?!". She was kinda chubby so I guess it was sarcastic and the whole shop including shefs burst into laughter. Now literally everyone was observing my every move and "admiring" how I could eat raw fish/Japanese food. "なんだこの外人?!(What kind of foreigner is this lol)" This made me nervous and I guess I wasn't handling the chopsticks well. They were the very thin kind and I was trembling. They offered me the thick disposable ones, which I declined. They gave me them anyway and took away the nice ones. A joke was made about how they don't have forks at sushi restaurants. At this point I actually felt like throwing up but I knew if I'd say so everyone would love to have seen the foreigner not be able to stomach Japanese food. Of course a few "日本語上手ですね" which basically means "your Japanese sucks but I appreciate you trying". Again some comments about how small my face is. I know all of this was probably meant well ! And another day I probably would have laughed with them. It's pretty funny to stand out. But eating these days is difficult. I get sick 😭 So I felt a little tired and embarrassed. I'm not complaining, but thought it would be interesting to tell this story as a foreigner in Japan.」1月15日 21時07分
