“The Japanese macaque, also called ‘snow monkey’. They live in the mountains of Japan where they must endure thick snow and freezing temperatures for several months of the year and nightly temperatures of -20°C. Their fur is both extremely warm and water repellent. In Jigokudani, where these two photos where taken, a troop of these snow monkeys will take hot baths in a natural spring during the winter -- a tradition they have done for the last 50 years in order to endure the cold.”
