Spoiler Alert: Yes. First of all, Angela Davis is a gift to the world. Her legacy of struggling for racial, economic, and gender justice is one that we can all learn from. Importantly, she ties all of these issues together to make it clear that it is only by addressing interlocking systems of oppression holistically, that we will achieve a world of true liberation.

As someone who identifies as a prison abolitionist myself, this book is a short and to the point wealth of information that makes the case for alternatives to caging human beings as a so-called attempt to solve social issues. In reality, the prison system has been incentivized towards growth by cheap labor and a source of enormous profits in everything from phone companies (which are exploitative in their costs to those that are incarcerated and trying to call people who are incarcerated) to food services. And this does not apply only to private prisons.

I am excited by the @reformlajails campaign in LA (that will be on the 2020 ballot as measure R!) that will seek to provide alternatives to caging human beings! Many organizations formed the @justicelanow coalition that stopped the construction of $3.5 BILLION in new jails. There is important work being done and ample opportunities to get involved.
