The first day, a lone Bottlenose Dolphin was playing at the bow of our boat. We slid into the shallow water for a look and were treated to a little swim-by. Later, a group of four were so active we jumped in again, and were treated to a real show up close. The following day, we ran into the same four- and this time they were even more curious, even coming deeper down to peek at us on our dive. The third day, we happened upon these Atlantic Spotted Dolphins, much smaller than the Bottlenose, and even more acrobatic. Porpoising alongside our boat, racing in the wake and off the bow, and an impressive 20 foot jump. We went into the 600 foot deep water, and marveled as they allowed us to swim among this pod of 20. Even as slow as they were moving, there was no way to maintain their pace, but they would double back and check on us, looking directly into our eyes, singing and clicking. These were some truly memorable moments. Thanks so much to our friends Mike and Annabelle (who got this beautiful video) at @bigbluecollective (and Mark, too) for the ocean adventures. Safety first, fun second, and the all important tasty lunches. So many firsts on our dives here in Turks and Caicos. The biggest Barracuda we’ve ever seen, a manicure from a Pederson Cleaner Shrimp, and of course, all the dolphins. This year is off to an impressive start.
