But this morning I realized there is so much that remains unshared- deeper stories, insights, details of the most monumental moments in my life and career that existed before Insta was a thing and before I had a public handle and persona. As January 2020 comes barreling in like a freight train, I figure a great place to start is in January 2010 when this editorial by @solvesundsbostudio for @vmagazine was released and everything in my world changed overnight. Prior to this shoot I had been a model for 10 years already, quietly shooting catalogs in Germany and England with very little stateside success. As I model I always knew booking an editorial was the goal, but considering I had never even been on a set for one, really had no clue what to expect. I could sell you a nightgown or a pair of jeans until the cows came home, but sell you high fashion? Art? An emotion?? 😬 The day before the shoot I sat at The Smith with @redmansworld predicting what could potentially go down, how I would just go for it and do all the creative moves I had been wanting to try. We even went down to the photo booth to practice where I tested out this funny little avant garde hand move and we laughed and said “OMG what if you actually do that tomorrow?!” I arrived on set the next day and nervously said hi to everyone. I was wearing Timberland boots and the laces caught on each other and I fell walking over to the makeup chair. I talked quietly on the phone to a boy I was seeing-who would later become my husband- to let him know I wasn’t really sure when I’d be finished, but I would love to celebrate after. I ate a sandwich immediately after @therealofficialfrankb did my pristine red lip #amatuermove. All the models played it trés cool like we do this all the time, because there was no reason we shouldn’t be there to slay of course, but inside I was freaking out and I imagine my colleagues probably were as well.
