I lost my dad to cancer on Thursday. Today is his birthday. It’s unfathomable the idea of living a life without him. A day without him reaching out to me throughout the day just to check in even on his sickest days. It’s unfair of the world to have had him suffer and to have taken him from me and my sister. He was not only my father, but my best friend. Not a person in the world who met him didn’t love him, especially his inappropriate humor and his endless amount of stories to entertain you with.
I miss his name on my phone screen. I miss sitting and doing absolutely nothing with him. I miss him telling me how weird I am. I miss making him grilled cheese for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I miss his made up languages and the shocking things he said to me to make me laugh. He gave me more love than a person could give another person and made me feel safe in my skin when no one else could. I’ll miss him every second of everyday. I can’t image this heartbreak ever going away. I love you dad.
