A little bit about the importance of using organic cotton : When using pesticides to grow cotton, the toxic waste water then seeps into the rivers close by and then flow into local farming, where vegetables and agriculture become contaminated. It even flows into water streams which the villages rely on for drinking water. The people have no choice but to drink the contaminated water, ingesting the harmful chemicals which then lead to many illnesses, cancers and a lot of the time, death. Even the people making our clothes have to breathe in these chemicals. Up to 20,000 deaths a year are caused by pesticide poisoning in developing countries. A lot of us come from privileged upbringings, so this reality is hard to imagine. To make matters worse, less than one percent of the worlds cotton is grown organic. I’m certainly no perfect human, but I think it’s important to be conscious of the things we buy and bring back the connection between us and the people who make our clothes.」12月21日 20時29分
