According to the myths of the Kwakwaka’wakw tribes of the Northern Vancouver Island the first men were killer whales who came to shore, transformed into land creatures, and then forgot to go back. In this mythology, the killer whale is the lord of the underwater realm. His house can be reached by four days journey out to open sea, and his village is at the head of a long narrow inlet. The dolphins are his warriors.
