We’ve all experienced being left with an indelible mark after watching a powerful narrative that captures our hearts no matter how young or old we were at the time. It can transport you to another place and provide an incredible sense of satisfaction. That’s the power of film. Movies are some of the most powerful tools of storytelling and human connection. I experienced this personally being part of Marvel’s Black Panther - the response across the world to the diverse representation combined with great original storytelling had an incredible impact on a magnificent range of people. Like so many industries however, filmmaking is no exception when it comes to gender disparity. In spite of the fact that women made up 51% of moviegoers in 2018, they represented only 4% of directors, 15% of writers, 18% of producers and executive producers, and 14% of editors. That’s why this month’s #LoveOurGirls newsletter features the tremendous nonprofit WomenInFilm.org (WIF) who are working to change that narrative through their mission of encouraging and inspiring women in all aspects of global media. WIF advocates for and advances the careers of women working in the screen industries to achieve parity and transform culture. Through their efforts, they hope to ensure that no talented, determined, female voice is left behind. Let’s start a new decade making steady progress towards the goal of gender equality in film. It’s time to change the narrative. Link is in my bio. [http://bit.ly/LOGDec2019]」12月20日 3時25分 - danaigurira
