Earlier this week Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed Bill 40 into law, an incredible victory that was made possible by the voices and testimony of thousands of community members, businesses, surfers, scientists, and youth. Local non-profits including @kokuahawaiifoundation, @surfrideroahu, @sustainablecoastlineshawaii, @zerowaste_oahu, @sierraclubhi, and B.E.A.C.H. have been working for over a decade to pass policy on Oʻahu to prevent single-use plastics from polluting our shores and ecosystems, and will now support the transition with outreach & education. We can’t continue to simply clean-up our coastlines...we need to reduce plastic waste at the source.
