10 years ago this week, the Charlotte gainsbourg album 'IRM' was released. I spent the end of 2008 and most of 2009 writing and producing the songs for it after the end of the modern guilt tour. some might not be familiar with it, but this record is just as personal to me, if not more, than records I've put out under my own name. Working with Charlotte was natural, like we had been working together for years. we had a lot of parallels in our lives at the time and the songs expressed that. we recorded much of it at my house in a relaxed atmosphere with her kids hanging out and doing french homework. although she didnt want to play on the record, I would walk into the studio and find her playing classical music beautifully on the piano. After the album we put together musicians from my touring band and she went on her first tour and first time performing. since then she has evolved as a performer and come into her own with her own song writing. her recent album is a truly great one, which I was hoping to work on but schedules didnt work out. I'm grateful that Charlotte had faith in me to help her make some thing that felt true to her. much thanks to everyone who worked on it and to my friend @charlottegainsbourg x
