HK Protesters Yelled at Us 😳 • day 51 of #100daysofauthenticity • we ate traditional #hkbreakfast at #lanfongyuen #蘭芳園 with @kyle • it. was. da. bombbbbb. • walked around in the ghost town of #tsimshatsui, a city that is usually filled with people • most stores were closed, but we found a Foot Locker • introduced @hawaiichristopher to #vita & I had their version of #ribena 😍 • I livestreamed during the #hkprotests and we all got yelled at in #cantonese for filming

On a more serious note, watching them protest and fight for their basic constitutional rights (freedom of speech) was heartbreaking. I teared up just seeing some of the intelligent and poetic graffiti that is everywhere in the cities of Hong Kong. As US citizens, we are incredibly fortunate. We have the right to say almost anything and protest about our government without being sprayed with tear gassed, beat, and killed. The saddest part is that Hong Kong IS supposed to have the right to freedom of speech right now because they’re not even part of China yet. I feel that China is reacting this way because they have never or perhaps haven’t seen this type of protest in a long time. It’s horrible. Upset about anything going on in the US? Travel to HK during the protests, Vietnam after the north took over, China to see their history of Tianamen Square erased.... and let the gratitude sink in.
