#CubsCollection: Ivy. The historic ivy has adorned the outfield walls of the Friendly Confines since 1937. Originally English ivy, now primarily Boston ivy, the vining plant was added to enhance the look of Wrigley Field and cushion the brick walls. The bleacher wall ivy isn’t just for looks, however, it actually influences game play. If a fair ball enters the ivy and rebounds onto the playing field, it is in play. If a fair ball enters the vines and lodges in the ivy, it is a dead ball and a ground rule double for the batter. This robust plant clings to the bricks of Wrigley Field and changes with the seasons. Meticulously cared for by the grounds crew, it comes back lush and green each summer contributing to the ballpark’s iconic look and feel. “The ivy is part of the state of mind created when one enters the Friendly Confines.” - Jack Brickhouse 📸 @sgreenphoto Find more photos on Facebook.com/Cubs.
