As cute and adorable as it appears, it’s actually sizing me up to see if I’m competition for food in anyway. This 10 foot long, curious seal had me swimming in circles to keep it from getting behind me and occasionally displayed its teeth to me and the 8 inch dome of my camera that was surely acting like a mirror of sorts. Once establishing that I was either too ambivalent or stupid to hunt, it playfully went on with its business. Shooting in the icy waters of Antarctica is no easy thing - your fingers and toes can only handle so much and your face swells up and feels like it’s full of Novacaine.
