Joel Sartoreさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Joel SartoreInstagram)「Happy Thanksgiving from this beautiful ocellated turkey @officialdwazoo! Endemic to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala and Belize, ocellated turkeys, especially males, look similar to the North American wild turkey, but have more vibrant coloring and weigh significantly less than the birds in the States. Males weigh just over ten pounds and average three feet in length, while females are slightly smaller in size. Both sexes have bluish-gray tails with a well-defined, eye-shaped, blue-bronze colored spot near the end followed by a bright gold tip. These spots give the ocellated turkey its name, as the Latin word for eye is oculus. In the wild, large scale timber operations and slash and burn agriculture in Central America threaten the habitat of the ocellated turkey. To combat this threat, and create a better future for the species, @rainforestalliance is working to advance community forestry, sustainable agriculture, ecotourism, and environmental education, supporting local landscapes and communities in areas where this bird is found. #Thanksgiving #TurkeyDay #ocellatedturkey #colorful #bird #PhotoArk #savetogether」11月29日 0時06分 - joelsartore
