Last week 600 Softshell Turtles representing four species were confiscated at Pratapgarh junction by General Railway Police and UP Forest Department. Five people were detained with the consignment. All of the turtles were released in the Sai River after a primary health assessment. .
The Turtle Survival Alliance works year round with enforcement agencies to curb the loss of India’s turtles to illegal trade and return them to the wild. Winter is the season of smuggling and correspondingly, confiscations increase. .
