One of the most insightful catalysts into the health of any connection, for me at least, has been the word ‘no.’ It’s interesting that a limit or boundary communicated reveals so much. I have experienced both the immediate positive and negative of this, but ultimately I believe it’s all positive because that’s what truth leads to. No has helped strengthen my core relationships. No has revealed the need to step away from some of them. No has helped me yield my best work. No has helped me simplify, prioritize and focus. No has bettered my health. No has surprised me at times. No has shown me the best in folks. No has shown the worst in folks too. No has helped solidify and build trust with some, and has revealed anger, defamation and/or nonsensical behavior in others too. No has taught me a lot about myself as well. It’s a powerful word, as well as a peaceful one. It’s often uncomfortable, and the open door to a needed change.
