STIL IN BERLINさんのインスタグラム写真 - (STIL IN BERLINInstagram)「It’s been 30 years since these slabs of steel-reinforced concrete visually marked the division of Germany into East and West. While there are many remains of the wall visible in Berlin, this spot of leftover wall running down Niederkirchnerstraße represents the ambivalent history of Berlin like few other. On one side, the current ministry of finance is housed in one of the few remaining original Nazi buildings from 1935, the former Reichsluftfahrtsministerium, in which (curveball) the GDR was founded in October 1949. On the other side, the memorial „topography of terror“ sits on the former lot of the headquarters of SS and Gestapo during Nazi times. It’s the one site I suggest people with little time if they want to experience the troublesome history of the city. It’s not as gaudy as Checkpoint Charlie, nor limited to GDR history like the memorial at Bernauer Straße, but represents the many histories of the city. Around the corner you can find a well preserved former watchtower, tucked away in a dead end street many people overlook. /Advertising/ I took these pictures on a photo walk to test out the new #iphone11 and its new wide angle camera.
