I was so fascinated and inspired by the beautifu black women who would grace the covers and pages of those magazines. There was one issue in particular of Jet that made my heart stop. On its cover was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She was wearing a diamond head dress and this perfectly pink eye shadow and pink lipstick. Her skin was luminescent. But it wasnt really about how she looked. It was what she emanated. I was sure she was a queen of some sort. I was convinced she must be royalty. I remember lying in bed with that magazine wondering how one could be so beautiful that it transcended the physical. I longed to be like the woman on the cover of Jet magazine. . Years later I would learn that that woman's name is Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid but she is known the world over as simply Iman. Last night I got to present Iman with the Trailblazer award from @fginyc.
