Now times that by 100 and that’s how it feels when your child is bullied. Not only by other kids, but adults as well. . I told Ky he’s not alone. I had it bad in junior high too. Victim of the Mean Girls. The “cool girls”. We grew up poor and every chance they got, they would make fun of my clothes and where I lived. So I started hanging out with the boys. That only made the teasing and name calling worse.  Kys in junior high now. And there are only EIGHT kids in 6th grade at his private school. So that makes it hard when you feel like an outcast. No one to really connect with and always worried about “not being cool”. He showed an interest in basketball and I was DOWN. It keeps him active, motivated and he loves it. This kid is like rain man with basketball facts. It’s so impressive. He’s impressive.  We are extremely close and it breaks my heart when kids are truly mean. Some things I understand and let him deal with / know it helps toughen him up. It did for me. But I am also the mom who will repeat the scene from Hand that rocks the cradle. . He was the new kid on his basketball team and I thought I was gonna have to prepare for him wanting to quit / be upset that he wasn’t as good as the other players.  That didn’t happen.  The other players & coach welcomed him and his first practice was amazing. I’ve never seen him try so hard and sweat so much. Lol. Every time I thought he was gonna die from exhaustion, he pushed harder to keep up. And his first game, even tho he wasn’t the fastest or most skilled, he tried and played so hard that he got praise from his team and coach. Proud mom moment. You know my ass almost cried. . We practice every day. And he becomes more confident every day. Just when he felt like he had none, he found friends in something new.  I always tell him this and wish I could have told my 11 year old self - “Be who you are and say what you feel. Because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” ❤️ Dr Seuss.
