I have been working to protect and save orangutans as well as study them now for 48 years and during this time have gotten to know some of these wonderful gentle, genteel individuals of the species relatively well. What a pity if they were to vanish as wild populations from this earth! The mind boggles at the thought. But with massive deforestation going on in both Borneo (including Kalimantan) and Sumatra the possibility becomes more probable with each passing day.
