She was also a key figure in the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City which is cited as sparking major LGBT activism for generations to come. She went on to create various organizations like the Gay Liberation Front, the Gay Activist Alliance and STAR that provided aid to homeless and low income trans youth. Today, the @SylviaRiveraLawProject (SRLP) continues to carry the work she deeply cares about through legal services for transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming low-income people of color.
