Photo by @MichaelGeorge | The Hverir geothermal area in Iceland is a unique wasteland in which pools of boiling mud, hot springs, and hissing chimneys give life to a desolate Mars-like scenery. The sulfur and other minerals are so pungent that they stick to your nose for hours after you depart. This area is part of the Diamond Circle drive in northeastern Iceland. The ridge leads to Námafjall, a small mountain in the back of the geothermal field that provides visitors with an overlook of the geothermal features. I believe this is the smelliest place I have ever been, though the otherworldly landscape made it worth every scent. #hverir #iceland #geothermal #hotsprings #travelphotography
