リリー・ドナルドソンさんのインスタグラム写真 - (リリー・ドナルドソンInstagram)「This September I landed back in Addis Ababa the capital of Ethiopia. After a short stay in the capital along with a brilliant team composed of my dear friend Margaret Traub of @internationalmedicalcorps, legendary photo journalist Ed Kashi, photographer Erika Larsen, Marcia Brophy mental health advisor for IMC, Will Thompson and Tony Ayiga from National Geographic we boarded a UNHCR humanitarian plane and headed to our final destination the refugee camp Melkadida on the boarder of Somalia. Here we would finally meet our new students, a group of young Somali refugees who would be joining us for our photo camp. Play and creativity is a vital part of life, preserving culture and importantly mental health for children. For displaced youth living or born in a camp like Melkadida the daily battle of living conditions and constant threat of unrest becomes a way of life and when survival is your reality this leaves little room for much else. We are all given the powerful opportunity to tell our own story in one form or another, whether its privately documenting our lives or publicly sharing our world on social media. With visitors to refugee camps frequently taking photographs in hopes of inspiring help back home, this project puts the camera on the other side and gives an important opportunity to take back ownership of how their world is viewed and a chance to capture it and share it through their own eyes. During the photo camp the students enthusiasm and excitement to learn and play mixed with their sheer talent for photography and creativity was awe inspiring. Watching the different characters of the students unfold, grow in confidence and over come obstacles as the days went by was truly humbling to be apart of. From the first day meeting our wonderful class to the graduation ceremony and exhibition where the students could show their friends and family what they had learnt and created was one of the most impactful times of my life. This program will continue to run, now with UNHCR seeing the impact of the program also pledging to stay involved alongside us and I hope to ask you all to get involved in the near future :) xx 🌍」10月7日 0時30分 - lilydonaldson
