カーリー・ウォパットさんのインスタグラム写真 - (カーリー・ウォパットInstagram)「Update on Twin Palms Beach Volleyball Facility, in honor of my twin sister, Samantha: We have raised enough money to break ground at Dos Pueblos High School this Fall! This project is very close to my family’s hearts and I wanted to share it with you if haven't heard about it already. Sam and I both attended DPHS and lead the Chargers volleyball team to back-to-back CIF finals in 2008 & 2009, winning the 1A Division championship in 2009. We both received scholarships to Stanford University, and went on to study & compete there. In March of 2012, Sam died of suicide. She was 19. An effort to create a positive difference has inspired us to build Twin Palms: a 4 court NCAA-regulation beach volleyball court facility located adjacent to the Dos Pueblos High School track in Goleta, California. Essentially we want these courts to say to our young adults: You matter. Your story is important. You are not alone. The sport of beach volleyball is played outdoors where sun, activity, laughter, and connections with other people can be made. I believe that you always need other people, and other people need you. We need to challenge the stigma of mental/behavioral health. Especially with our teens/young adults. Stigma exists when silence is the loudest voice in the conversation. Our vision is that the Twin Palms Beach Volleyball Courts will help start conversations and spark the possibility for change. The donor wall inside the beach complex will be a symbol of joy and reflection (of all the individuals, businesses and community members that made this a reality) and inspiring students to dream big, work hard, and always ask for help when you need it.
