Steve Knoop became one of the biggest supporters and sponsors to Mark Ladwig and I as we chased our skating dreams of making it to the 2010 Olympics. And even when I retired from competitive skating in 2012, Steve knew I was getting my business degree @usfsm and offered me an office administrator job at his company. He was my boss for 4 years, and I became a part of his family through these times. Trained alongside with his oldest daughter @knoopsicle , and even presently teaching his youngest @graceknoop right now. Last December, he was diagnosed with cancer and after a short but valiant battle with it, he passed away in April 14, 2019. With the blessing of his wife @peaceloveknoop, she helped me chose @bgccan as my charity choice. Because like Steve, it’s a charity devoted to creating communities where’s dreams can grow and kids thrive. @ladwigmark and I were only just a pair of many young skaters and coaches Steve supported and guided through the years. You would see Steve weekly at the rink to watch practices, volunteer his time monitoring at our #teamFlorida competition, and operating spotlights at our holiday shows. Fully and actively involved in creating a safe and supportive environment, he went further than that taking in skaters under his wings when they were homesick or just needed a break from training where he would bring them golfing, boating, baseball games, or just out to dinner. The mission statement of the Boys and Girls Club have the same core values that Steve and his family believe in. It’s a charity cause that’s close to their hearts, and I’m proud to be representing in their name. I’d like to thank the Knoops for letting me share just a small part of Steve’s inspiring story.
