A portal to another world, an opening up of possibilities, an opening up of my mind. As a child I would spend all day, all weekend reading. Through the characters, I got to have experiences that felt so impossibly far away from me, from my life. They allowed me to travel in my mind. A gateway to other dimentions, a light in dark times; a teacher, a friend. There are very few things as powerful as words. They hypnotize us, hypnotize others. For good and bad- planting seeds deep into our subconscious. Words are magic. . As a lifelong lover and voracious reader of books, I can’t tell you how overjoyed I was to be asked to be an @oprahsbookclub ‘reading ambassador’. The first selection is Ta-Nehisi Coates’s debut novel- The evocative and thought provoking, “The Water Dancer”. . One of the great things about any kind of ‘creation’ are the themes it brings to your mind, the questions they pose. Even while deeply absorbed within the story, one starts to reflect on the meaning of these questions within the context of their life, their beliefs, or just turning something in their consciousness around in a new way.
