Working in a booth for 16 hours and having non stop interactions reminded me how terribly and sadly we have been wired to just be sorry. For anything. For everything. For simply existing in a space. I found myself apologizing when I gave people their total at times if I thought it was too high and I wasn’t worth that much. I had girls apologize for taking two extra seconds to put their money safely away before they took their bags. Girls apologizing because they wanted to buy something and needed assistance. People apologizing when asking the cost of something. It’s ingrained in us so early on that taking up time, resources, seats, money, jobs, conversations, is not only wrong but completely inconvenient. It implies we are worth less and therefore have a reason to apologize. We dont. And I am trying to remind myself daily so I will remind you too: YOU ARE WORTH MORE THAN THE LIES IN YOUR HEAD. You are worth more than a society that has taught you to stay small and palatable. You can take up space. You can go for the job or ask the question, or celebrate success, or outgrow what people think you should be. You deserve to walk with your head up toward the light.
