I think I was around 18 years old and was a student @nyutisch I used my girlfriend at the time @rebeccagayheartdane who wanted to be an actress. I pitched my ideas to the schools owner #FredericJondreau and showed him my student film ‘Whatever Happened to Mason Reese’, he loved it, believed in me and gave me my first paying job! He said all he wanted the commercial to accomplish was to get people to want to come to the school to learn sign language that didn’t have any connection to deaf people. He wanted people to think of American Sign Language as just another language to communicate. I came up with the concept of putting a speaking person in the shoes of what a hearing impaired person might feel like not being able to communicate with anyone and made everyone in the city speak sign language only. The commercial worked!!!!! Thousands of people came to the school that didn’t have any connection to the deaf and wanted to learn sign language.
