I spent the better half of last week trying to understand what the hell a VSCO girl is, after overhearing Mazzy mention it to a friend on the phone and a few people DMing me to ask if Mazzy was a VSCO girl. The whole exercise made me feel ridiculously old. After much research (a buzzfeed article, a YouTube video and some hashtag scouring), I determined that VSCO girls wear the same style that me and my friends (who were not cool, not popular and not trendy) wore in junior high school in the ‘80s. Minus the hydro flasks I guess. I still couldn’t wrap my 44 year-old brain around this non-style style, so I asked Mazzy if she was a VSCO girl and if she could explain it. She said, “No. It’s weird.” Then Harlow started dancing around screaming, “I’m a disco girl! Sksksksksk sksksksk!” (Sksksksk is apparently a VSCO girl sound 🤷🏻‍♀️) And we all laughed and laughed and now that we are openly mocking the term “VSCO girls” as a family, I feel much better.
